COST’s governing board, the Committee of Senior Officials (CSO), have confirmed the funding of 70 new COST Actions, that will officially start in Autumn 2022. COST Actions are networks of researchers all over Europe and abroad and Luxembourg researchers are strongly encouraged to participate, especially early-career researchers.
As an indicator of multidisciplinarity of the 70 new COST Actions, 47% of all new Actions cover at least two OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) fields of science and technology, while 11% cover at least three fields.
Natural sciences leads the way as the most represented field of science (represented in 50% of the new approved Actions), followed by Medical and Health Sciences (34%), Social Sciences (27%), Engineering and Technology (24%), Agricultural Science (13%), and Humanities (11%).
The success rate for applications in this Open Call was 17.4%.
22 of the 70 Actions involve Luxembourg co-proposers. Luxembourg researchers are strongly encouraged to join either in the Management Committee (MC, nomination by Helena Burg required), or in the Actions’ working groups? For each action, two researchers can be nominated per country. In order to be nominated, please provide the CNC (COST National Coordinator), Helena Burg, with the completed ‘COST action form’.

Each COST Action is a bottom-up science and technology network in fields that are of interest to at least five COST countries with a duration of four years. COST provides the COST Actions with financial support for joint activities, such as workshops, conferences, short-term scientific exchanges, training schools, and publications. Each COST Actions has an objective, defined goals and clear deliverables. COST Actions have located their topic into one of COST’s scientific Domains. Please note that COST does not fund research itself.
