Three law professors from the University of Luxembourg, UNSW Sydney (Australia) and the University of Hong Kong (China) have joined forces to cooperate in researching the law and regulation of financial technology (FinTech). The cooperation was formalised during an FNR INTER Mobility project.
Prof Dirk Zetzsche (ADA Chair in Financial Law/Inclusive Finance – University of Luxembourg), Prof Ross Buckley (Scientia Professor and King & Wood Mallesons Chair of International Financial Law – UNSW Sydney) and Prof Douglas Arner (Kerry Holdings Professor in Law – University of Hong Kong) are based on three continents and at three major international financial centres. In the past year, their works have been downloaded more than 30,000 times on the Social Science Research Network (SSRN), and they have published over 30 scholarly articles and book chapters.
This global FinTech and RegTech research cooperation is supported by the FNR via the INTER Mobility project ‘Smart Regulation – Towards a New Law for FinTech’. As part of the INTER Mobility project, Prof Zetzsche spent three months at UNSW Sydney earlier in 2017, where the cooperation was formalised.
The cooperation is also supported by the Australian Research Council, which granted funding of the project ‘Regulating a Revolution: A New Regulatory Model for Digital Finance’, as well as the Hong Kong Research Grants Council Theme-based Research Scheme, which provided financial support for ‘Enhancing Hong Kong’s Future as a Leading International Financial Centre’.
This cooperation aligns with the Luxembourg Government’s efforts to promote FinTech.
Global FinTech Conference
Prof Zetzsche, Prof Arner and Prof. Buckley, alongside other renowned researchers and FinTech regulators, will present their work at a Global FinTech Conference organised by the University of Luxembourg’s Research Unit in Law on Monday, 9 October 2017.
