This privacy notice describes how the Fonds National de la Recherche (FNR) collects and processes personal data of applicants gathered in connection with completion of surveys.

The data processed and legal basis
We may collect personal data about you that you provide as part of completing our surveys such as :
- identification data (first name, last name,…)
- personal characteritics (date and place of birth, language,…)
- contact details (private email address)
- educational history
- demographic characteristics
- postgraduation plans
- any other information that is relevant to the survey or related research analyses
This processing is based on our legitimate interest, as a public institution set up under the Law of 31 May 1999 (published in Memorial A no. 88 of 06 July 1999) with the mission of contributing to the ongoing and long-term development of the national public research system.
The data recipients
The surveys are part of a wider research project on the impact of science funding, conducted jointly with the Chair of Science of Science and Innovation Policy of the KU Leuven. Your personal data collected trought the surveys are therefore shared with KU leuven for the above-mentioned purposes, and will be treated strictly confidentially.
Data retention period
For research purposes, your data will be retained for a period of ten (10) years, renewable upon request of the researchers and provided that this is needed for research purposes. Afterwards, only representations of pooled survey data (plots, tables, publications or reports) that do not allow the identification of the individual survey responder will be conserved.
Your rights
In accordance with the applicable data protection law, you may exercise at any time the following rights in relation to your personal data:
- right of access : you have the right to obtain confirmation that we are processing your personal data and where this is the case to obtain a copy of these data;
- right to rectification : you have the right to obtain from us the correction of your personal data that are incorrect and/or incomplete;
- right to lodge a complaint with the National Commission for Data Protection (CNPD) if you believe that the processing of your data does not comply with the law.
In certain cases, and under the conditions laid down by law, you also have the following rights:
- right to erasure : in specific cases, you have the right to obtain from us the erasure of your personal data;
- right to restriction of processing : in the specific cases, you have the right to restrict the processing of your personal data;
- right to object : you have the right to object at any time, on grounds related to your particular situation, to any processing of your personal data necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest or based on legitimate interest;
- right to data portability, which enables you, in certain cases and with regard only to the data you have provided to us, to request receipt of your personal data in a structured and commonly machine- readable format.
