Artificial intelligence (AI) and health technologies – prosthetics and medical image processing
Institution
Lycée technique pour professions de santé (LTPS)
FNR Committed
€10,500
Project week on AI and health technologies. Students will develop skills in main scientific and technology domains, get a critical opinion about opportunity, added value to patients, psychology impact, social impact, and ethical considerations. See how prostheses are developed and what role artificial intelligence has in this process and have lectures and interviews with 3 scientific speakers during a 3 days trip to Vienna. At the end, students will present their findings that are judged by a jury.

EXALT: Exercise gAming for eLderly and Telehealth
Institution
Luxembourg Health & Sport Sciences Research Institute ASBL
FNR Committed
€23,395
Fall prevention through game development. Interdisciplinary EXALT project aims to target three different populations and obtain its objectives by co-creation and participatory approach. The populations involved are Senior citizens in Luxembourg (enrolled via Club Seniors); students in programming and gaming design from Lyçée des Arts et Métiers (LAM-BTS) and LUNEX physiotherapy students. Co-creation and interdisciplinary participation will be the main characteristics of this part. Senior citizens will provide their perspective and feedback on the development based on their knowledge and experience. LUNEX students and staff will feedback the rehabilitation expertise in the development to guide “all together” the design and programming operated by the LAM-BTS students. The three groups will work in parallel on different exergames.

Classified Mathematics
Institution
University of Luxembourg
FNR Committed
€26,300
Organise workshops on what classifications in mathematics mean. Organise workshops for the ScienTeens Lab (8). Co-create a Science Show together with the Luxembourg Science Center. Interactive classification websites that can be used by the general public, students and researchers. This will make a link between the toy model classification the participants have performed, and ongoing mathematical research. These online classifications will be part of the workshops, but can also be viewed independently, including by university students and even researchers. Produced material will be used as well for lectures for students from the Master in Secondary Education – Mathematics. Web application will be open source.
By advertising this underrepresented aspect of mathematics, participants will learn about the importance and breadth of mathematical research. Moreover it will get the message across that mathematics is a more diverse science than what they are exposed to in their standard education, which is an important tool to convince more students to study mathematics.

Discover the inside of your colon: boosting cancer prevention
Institution
University of Luxembourg
FNR Committed
€34,962
We expect to reach 20,000 people, and we predict that 600 people will actively interact during the public event. In addition, we foresee 1000 visits to the website, including 100 views of the videos.
For this proposal, the MDM Group collaborates with the Fondation Cancer and the Ministry of Health to tackle the important challenge: bringing a difficult research topic like CRC closer to the public to promote a public discussion on the ongoing research in Luxemburg and the importance of early cancer detection.
Objectives: 1. Share with the public the current knowledge on CRC, focusing on the research “made in Luxembourg”.
2. Engage in a dialogue about the importance of participating in screening programs, highlighting that in Luxembourg there is a national colorectal cancer screening program.
3.Discuss, in particular with high-school children, the risk factors, namely the importance of a healthy diet.
