Submitted Abstract

The objective of the Lecture Series is to bring together leading specialists of legal, political economy or international relations background in order to critically assess the European Union’s external relations in a multipolar world. Emphasis will be put on the global approach of the European Union’s external action after the entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty and the external perceptions of its role in a context of financial crisis. The Lectures will be held in three parts: Institutional issues / Policy oriented approach / External perception and impact on global governance. The Lecture Series will combine theoretical perspectives and empirical insights with the view to rethink the international identity of the European Union, its contribution to the evolution of the international law and its emergence as a global actor defending a Union interest. The audience will comprise scholars in law, international relations and political economy, PhD students, PostDoc students, research assistants, members of the Court of Justice of the European Union, experts and policy-makers. Round tables with PhD, PostDoc students and legal secretaries of the Court of Justice of the European Union will precede and follow the Lecture Series. The Lecture Series will fill a gap in the activity of the University of Luxembourg, as the theme of the external action of the European Union is not yet sufficiently developed, and will offer the opportunity of interdisciplinary scientific cooperation.
