Submitted Abstract

This project is designed to further our understanding of the role of environmental pollutants, dietary derived constituents and their possible interactions on cardiometabolic diseases and their associated risk factors such as obesity, hypertension, hyperlipidemia or diabetes. It will assess differences related to environmental pollutants and micro-nutrient status in Luxembourg through analyses of of hair concentrations of pollutants and plasma/serum concentrations of micro-nutrients, phytochemicals, inflammatory and oxidative stressand stress markers, hormones and blood lipids. Plasma, serum and hair samples were collected in the framework of the European Health Examination Survey in Luxembourg (EHES-LUX), 2013-2015. Cardiometabolic outcomes will be assessed by self-reported diagnosis, medical examination, and blood plasma/serum also collected within the EHES-LUX study. Evidence produced by this project will be used to further complement or establish new public health policies for targeting environmental conditions and diet as a key strategy to improve health. We expect to publish our results in national and international peer review journals as well as presenting the results at congresses and conferences, both nationally and internationally.
