Submitted Abstract

In this project, a team of researchers from LUNEX University proposes to organise 4 events over a period of 12 months, to invite approximately 200 pupils aged 14-16 years (i.e. approx. 50 pupils per event). During each visit, the pupils will take part in two interactive workshops, in which they will be introduced to key scientific concepts from the fields of Sport Science and Sport Management. The workshops will be highly practice-oriented, to emphasise the interaction of the pupils with the scientific concepts and thereby maximise their “take home message”. The overall objective of the project is for youngsters in Luxembourg to discover different research areas related to Sport, through fun activities. The following workshops will be delivered by experts in the field: (1) Sport Performance and Health Measurements in Sport by Dr. Bettina Karsten and Dr. Thorben Hülsdünker, (2) The use of technology in professional sport by Prof. Dr. Mathieu Winand, (3) The Sport Good Governance Game by Dr. Mathieu Marlier, (4) Balance and agility on a bicycle by Ms. Kim Buchholtz, (5) Sport Psychology: balancing mind and body by Dr. Alioune Touré and (6) Is eSport really a sport? by Mr. Sebastian Merten. Each workshop will start with an introductory presentation including basic theoretical background as well as a description of the practical part of the workshop. Research methods will be embedded in the workshops, allowing the pupils to gain a practical understanding of the theoretical constructs involved. Relevant research examples and practical applications will be provided, thereby helping the participants to understand in what contexts the research methods and results can be used. A particular emphasis will be put on the level of complexity being appropriately tailored to the audience, to ensure that all participants gain a clear understanding the different scientific concepts of the workshops.
