Submitted Abstract
The purpose of the Lunch Seminar series in Economics and Management is to attract important scholars from all around the world to present their research at Center for research in economics and management (CREA). Seminars consist of a research presentation of one hour. Systematically, the topics of research presented in this seminar series reflect the range and the depth of the intellectual interests of our department of economics and management. More specifically, seminars (i)provide a forum for exchange of ideas not only among scholars and but also academics and economic actors outside academia; (ii)keep scholars informed about the frontier of research in various areas of economics and management, in a broad sense; (iii)reinforce the link between researchers from UL and other research institutions in Luxembourg, and foreign academics; and (iv)lace research in economics and management at UL on the international map, by giving the opportunity to foreign scholars to get to know the department of economics and management. In order to achieve these objectives, renowned scholars all over Europe and overseas have been invited to the seminar and we perpetuate our goal to try to increase every year the quality and the diversity of our guests. From 2005, year in which the Series was launched, CREA has welcomed over 160 speakers, several of whom from Ivy league universities in the US. We have had speakers that are future candidates for Nobel Prize in Economics as Prof. Philiphe Aghion, Professor Oded Galor and Professor Paul Milgrom. Furthermore, at the end of the academic year 2014-2015, we had the pleasure to welcome the Nobel laureate Professor Roger Myerson from the University of Chicago. Note finally, that in order to meet in particular points (iii) and (iv) mentioned above, we always ask our guests to stay for at least 1-2 days in our department. This gives us the opportunity to reinforce ties, but also for any interested person to meet the speaker in a guest-office space. This experience has been fruitful and has benefited many scholars in CREA as well as persons outside UL and PhD and Post-Doc students. The program of the 2015-2016 Lunch Seminars in Economics and Management welcomed 23 speakers. A full list of these speakers, as well as their affiliation can be found in the application form of this document. Topics tackled in this Seminar Series are broad and address the latest development in specific areas of economics.NB: the seminar series stretches over the whole academic year, i.e. from Sept. 23, 2015 to June 22, 2016. In our application for financial support from FNR, we have presented all the events of the series. However, as you can see from the budgetary part, we ask financial support from Nov. 15 on only, so as to comply with FNR guidelines, stating that the funding of the activity can only start by Nov. 15 at the earliest.
