Submitted Abstract
Confronting demographic changes (increase of life expectancy), declining economic growth (increased social inequalities), home care of people with chronic disease calls on intergenerational solidarity presenting physical and psychological risks to the health of family caregivers. Why, over time, are their abilities to manage everyday problems undermined? What knowledge and skills are required to be able to assist a parent while maintaining one’s “health capability”, in other words, to carry out the activities of a caregiver while preserving or adopting a healthy lifestyle? The impact of home care has serious consequences of their quality of life. From research carried out in Luxembourg among stroke victims, eight domains were identified: physical health, psychological health, value of lifestyle, sense of self-efficacy, family support, social capital, material conditions / sense of security, satisfaction with information and care services. Interviews realized in Lorraine (France) have allowed to deepen the content of these domains. This book is a useful guide for the implementation of innovative supports as well as a relevant instrument for the evaluation of actions of promotion of the health capability of family caregivers.
