Submitted Abstract

We organized a new Lecture Series in Translational Bioinformatics and Systems Biology to help us consolidate and expand research capacity in these areas in Luxembourg. To deliver on the promise of personalized and precision medicine, there is a need for advanced expertise and approaches to analyzing, visualizing and integrating multiple types of “omics” data within different predictive modeling settings and application domains. This will require advanced training of young researchers and new opportunities for cross-disciplinary and inter-institutional collaborations. This lecture series enabled Luxembourg-based research groups to continue advancing in meeting such educational and research challenges, and promoted further cooperation in Luxembourg and beyond. The lecture series was co-organized jointly by the LIH and the University of Luxembourg (LCSB and LSRU), and it builds on our experiences from previous community-oriented activities, local and international. The lecture series had a very active participation from students in Luxembourg, who benefited from the lectures, “Meet the Speaker” sessions and other meetings with the speakers at LIH and the University research groups. This activity also engaged research stakeholders from the public and private sectors in the region, and further increased the international visibility of Luxembourg research in bioinformatics and systems biology.
