Submitted Abstract

Extrusion of rubber compounds is one of the primary processes in the manufacturing of tires. Modelling the extrusion process is a challenging task. It has to be constantly adapted to new and more complex rubber recipes and it has to become faster in order to realize shorter innovation cycles. There is the need for new tire profiles and the demand for the production of small-batch quantities. The EMDD project aims at improving the computational simulation of rubber extrusion using a data-driven approach. The objectives are to make extrusion simulation more flexible, more precise and faster and improve the understanding of the influence of material and processing parameters on the flow of rubber compounds.
