Submitted Abstract
Eat´s unclear! Most food labels are cluttered with numbers, unpronounceable words and mysterious abbreviations. The EngrEdiEnts project decodes these secret messages by means of interactive, hands-on and spectacular workshops at Luxembourg Science Center´s KitchenLab. On this year´s menu: E-numbers. Participants can discover and experiment with the science behind E-numbers and create an edible explanation of why they are present in our food: sugar-free sugar, astronaut food, best before and expiry dates, dirty kitchen sponges, unmixable mixables, and many more … delicious bites of science. Eventually we spark interest, demystify the science that hides behind our stoves and teach bits of biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics to eventually encourage participants to question the world around them and continue experimenting in their own lab – their kitchen at home!
