Submitted Abstract
In 2010, FNR (via AM3) funded a scientific conference in Luxembourg on which this publication is based. The chapters, written on our invitation by leading scholars in the field, use microdata from the Luxembourg Income Study databases.This book presents internationally comparative evidence on income inequality trends, women’s employment and its effect on inequality, the distribution of wealth, and the interaction of politics with inequality across several mainly high-income countries. The overreaching theme in the chapters is income inequality and many chapters place a special emphasis on the status of the middle class. The main purpose of the book is to present an up-to-date, state-of-the-art volume about comparative research on inequality of income and wealth, and how these interact with labour markets, gender disparities, and politics. Four final chapters focus on inequality in countries newly entering the LIS database: Japan, Iceland, India, and South Africa.This book is under contract with Stanford University Press (SUP). As indicated in the attached letter (linked to the section explaining the estimated budget), SUP will incur the publication costs for which we are seeking funding from FNR. We are obligated to deliver to SUP US$7000. Based on that total (= 5540 Euros), we are requesting 2000 Euros plus 50% of the remaining budget. That is equivalent to 3770 Euros (based on exchange rates as of 6 September 2012).
