Submitted Abstract
In a world that largely depends on the exploitation of natural resources to meet growing consumer demands, research on issues of social and environmental sustainability in the production chain is becoming increasingly more relevant. But the current discourse on business and social development or Corporate Social Responsibility is long outdated and not enough to tackle the human rights challenges related to business activities, especially in the extractive sector and specifically concerning indigenous peoples. Hence, respect for human rights needs to become an integral part of doing Business and indigenous peoples need to treated as equal partners and co-designers in Sustainable Business Models for companies to act upon their responsibility to create social, environmental and economic benefits at the local level.
