Submitted Abstract

The context of the DPSAT project proposal is deploying the use case of High Throughput Satellite (HTS) communication systems through employing Digital Transparent Processors (DTP) at the payload of satellite aiming to process a large amount of bandwidth. The usage of the DTP allows channelizing and Routing the Bandwidth and Signals (RBS) statically from one beam to another as well as allocating bandwidth and capacity [1]-[6]. To embed DTP at the payload, the present project investigates the implementation of an On-Board Processing (OBP), in which a part of the signals / bandwidth passes through the DTP, to provide additional traffic- and signal-dependent features of channelizing, RBS and beamforming as a function of the traffic requirements. In addition, since the power resources of the satellite are scarce, the use of DTP is only feasible by keeping a tight power budget for the required processings at the payload. Indeed, applying any signal processing schemes at DTP entails accommodating much more power and intensive resources. A solution in this context would be introducing additional OBP features to the DTP in a power efficient manner. For this, the project focuses on signal processing techniques which can help to save power in OBP as well as changes the waveform to enable power efficient processing. The work packages of this project have prepared with the coordination of the industrial partner of the project (SES S. A.) in order to define pragmatic OBP scenarios and requirements.
