FNR ATTRACT Fellow Associate Prof Paul Wilmes from the LCSB at the University of Luxembourg has been elected as full member of the Institut Grand-Ducal, Section des Sciences Naturelles, Physiques et Mathématiques.
About Paul Wilmes
Prof Paul Wilmes, a Luxembourg national, returned to Luxembourg in 2010 in the framework of the FNR ATTRACT Programme. He is Associate Professor of Systems Ecology at the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB) of the University of Luxembourg, where he is also Deputy Head of the Systems Biomedicine Department and Head of the Eco-Systems Biology research group (Wilmes Lab). Paul Wilmes was the 2018 winner of the Grand Prix en sciences biologiques de l’Institut Grand Ducal. In 2017, together with Pranjul Shah, he won two FNR Awards, one in the category Research-Driven Innovation and one in the category Outstanding Scientific Publication.
About the Institut Grand Ducal
Founded in 1868, the Institut Grand Ducal’s purpose is to cultivate science, the humanities and the arts and to contribute to the development of intellectual production at the national and international levels. It is a centre for cooperation between scientists and artists from Luxembourg and other countries.
In cooperation with several private sponsors, the “Section des Sciences naturelles, physiques et mathématiques de l’Institut Grand-ducal” since 2010 each year awards a researcher either their complete work or an exceptional discovery in the fields of biology, chemistry, geology, mathematics and physics. 2018 winner (domain biology) was FNR ATTRACT Fellow Prof Paul Wilmes. The 2019 prize will be awarded in the domain chemistry, with an application deadline of 31 March 2019.
