Science Slam training: Learn how to present your research in a creative way!

In the lead up to the next edition of the Science Slam on 17 November, the FNR together with LuxDoc, are organising a training day to help researchers and scientists learn skills to help present their research in  a creative way in 10 minutes. The training takes place on 7 November in Esch / Belval.

During this workshop participants will learn the goals of a Science Slam and how to connect with an audience that does not perform research on their level. Participants will also learn how to do the previous without confusing their audience with technical language. With humor as means of communication, narrative strategies taken from daily life situations and the building-up of their presentation, participants will together with the training coach develop a 10-minute presentation of their research topic that should be both entertaining and sophisticated, without drifting into comedy.

Time and location

Time: 9:00 – 17.30, Monday, 7 November

Location: Maison du Savoir, Esch / Belval, room 3.390

About Science Slam

The Science Slam is an annual event organised by LuxDoc, where researchers and scientists demonstrate their research in 10 minutes – the participant with the loudest applause is then crowned the winner. Researchers can for example demonstrate their work by dancing it, or simply talk about it in a fun way  – the idea is that it should be entertaining and the audience should get an idea of your research during the 10 minutes you have to demonstrate it.

The 2016 Science Slam will take place on Thursday, 17 November 2016.

How to participate

Anyone wishing to participate can register by sending an email to events@luxdoc.org – places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come first-serve basis.

In preparation for the training, participants are asked to think about which area of their research they would like to talk about – e.g. about their PhD thesis in general, or a theoretical problem within their PhD thesis, or a generally known phenomenon in their domain.

Participants may also find it useful to view the videos below of previous Science Slam participants before the training:
