PROGRAMME SUMMARY

Based on the agreement of FNR and FCT (Portugal), signed April 2017, joint Luxembourg-Portuguese research projects are eligible for submission via the FNR’s CORE programme, beginning with the 2018 CORE Call.

The FNR will always be the lead agency and in charge of the merit review of joint applications.

Proposals have to fulfil the general CORE rules and will be evaluated in competition with all projects submitted to CORE and according to the same selection criteria. The research consortium has to agree on a single PI, responsible for the submission of the proposal. The project should be truly collaborative and research efforts (based on human resources involved) in both countries should be balanced. Portuguese researchers and research institutions need to be eligible for receiving funding from FCT.

Please note, in order to be eligible, projects submitted must fit into one of the thematic domains of the CORE programme:

  • Innovation in Services (IS)
  • Sustainable Resource Management in Luxembourg (SR)
  • New Functional and Intelligent Materials and Surfaces and New Sensing Applications (MS)
  • Biomedical and Health Sciences (BM)
  • Societal Challenges (SC)

DURATION AND FUNDING SPECIFICS

Projects under CORE have a lifespan of 2 – 3 years and funding is allocated on a competitive basis.

The involved national teams of projects retained will be funded by both the FCT and the FNR respectively, according to national rules.

APPLICATION INFORMATION

1. WHERE TO APPLY: LEAD AGENCY

All applications must be submitted to the FNR, via the FNR Online Grant Management System.

2. WHEN TO APPLY

Applications must be submitted within the annual call for the FNR’s CORE programme. Please note, FCT is not taking part in the 2019 CORE Call, therefore there is no 2019 FCT deadline.

3. EVALUATION

As lead agency, the FNR will be the agency evaluating all applications under the FNR – FCT agreement. However, the eligibility of the proposals will be checked by both involved agencies.

Proposals will be assessed based on the international “Principles for Scientific Merit Review”.
