FNR hosts HERA Management Team & Network Board Meeting

On Thursday, 15 and Friday, 16 June 2017, the FNR was proud to host the HERA Management Team & Network Board Meeting in Luxembourg with 38 participants from 22 countries.

HERA – Humanities in the European Research Area – is a partnership between 24 Humanities Research Councils across Europe and the European Commission, with the objective of firmly establishing the humanities in the European Research Area and in the European Commission Framework Programmes.

On the first day of the Meeting, discussions focussed on the future orientation of HERA with two parallel brainstorm sessions. The second day was also devoted to the exchange on research funding opportunities on the European level for Socioeconomic Sciences and Humanities (SSH) as well as possible interactions with other networks (i.e. NORFACE).

To conclude the first day, the participants were offered a social programme and welcome reception at Belval Research and Innovation Campus, new to most of the international representatives participating in the HERA Meeting.

During the evening, they had the opportunity to enjoy a guided tour of the site and the blast-furnace, followed by a reception in the massenoire (black-mass hall). Located next to the renovated blast furnaces of Belval, the building contained once a variety of equipment used for the production of the closing compound for the tap holes, also known as black mass. The hall had also a covered area used as a shelter to dry casting ladles. Recently renovated, the hall features now a venue where exhibitions and conferences on the projects’ development take place.
