Professor Simone Niclou, Deputy Director of the Department of Oncology at the Luxembourg Institute of Health (LIH), has been elected to the Executive Board of the European Association of Neuro-Oncology (EANO).
Professor Simone Niclou has been head of the LIH’s NorLux Neuro-Oncology Laboratory since its foundation in 2007. Niclou’s research is focused is focused on malignant brain tumours and aims to improve therapeutic options for these uncurable cancers. She has a special interest in glioma metabolism, tumour heterogeneity, glioma stem cells, tumour angiogenesis and invasion. Amongst other achievements, her team has been able to establish unique patient-derived mouse models for brain tumour research and has done pioneering work on glioma angiogenesis and metabolism.
Prof Niclou has succesfully applied for several FNR grants over the years. She coordinates the LIH ‘Lecture Series in Cancer Research‘, and is also the main coordinator for the Doctoral Training Unit ‘CANBIO‘, supported by block PhD grants from the FNR’s PRIDE programme. She was also featured in the 2017 exhibition ‘WiSE – Women in Science and Engineering’. She has also been featured in the science.lu series ‘Meet the Scientist‘.

EANO aims to enhance collaboration between all relevant disciplines – Neuro-Oncology, Neurosurgery, Neuropathology, Neuroradiology, and Radiation Oncology as well as Nursing – as well as bridging science, knowledge and practice gaps in the management of CNS malignancies.
